About Us
Our mission is to create both functional and non-functional art from tile, marble, granite, and stone. We strive to bend the envelope by putting a new twist on the traditional mosaic process. Nothing excites the eyes more than color and texture.
Conceived in 1994, this art form goes beyond conventional mosaic tile art. Looking to create functional art pieces usable in the home and garden, we looked to find substances that were colorful, durable to the elements, and possessed both design and texture. Traveling to other countries, we found incredible tiles that had all these elements. Returning home with an assortment of different and unique tiles from all over the world, we began cutting and mixing these tiles to create a whole other art form. By attaching cut tile to other forms, we were able to produce a new look to otherwise dull functional pieces. Then we began making our own tiles with new concepts is shape, color and texture. This changed everything!
Like a painter uses color and brush stroke, we too create a palette of color and texture. We start with clay to create new forms with texture and dimension. After firing them, we glaze each piece with unique colors, which bring the shapes to life! We designed a special saw that will cut tile in any direction. This allows us to create our own designs, taking elements from one tile, and combining them with elements from another. The detail is incredible, since there are no rules or limits on shape, texture or design.
After creating and cutting the tiles, we adhere them to various forms. Tables and chairs are formed using welded steel. Masks and figurines are formed from a combination of epoxy, resin,wire, and foam. The mirrors have a backing from concrete and crushed glass. Using our own home recipe, we create thinset mortar. After each piece dries, we grout the pieces, once again using our own tried and true recipes for colored grouts. Upon completion, we seal the grout and tile.
